Login Guard is an alternative to captcha protection for the WHMCS client area login form which will protect your website from brute-force attacks and other abuse.
Unlike captcha, your customers will be able to login to their accounts on your website without needing to complete any challenges, which can often lead to frustration.
In the event that a user repeatedly enters an incorrect username and password combination, Login Guard will automatically detect this suspicious activity and issue the user with a temporary IP ban in order to prevent any sustained network abuse.
Whilst enabling the captcha for the login form via the WHMCS security settings will provide protection from brute-force attacks, it only works on the designated client area login page.
This is because the template variables required for captcha protection to work are not available on other pages in WHMCS. Therefore, any attempt to login via another page (for example, via a login form in the header area of your website) will fail because the captcha cannot be completed.
Login Guard solves this problem as it allows you to disable the captcha whilst ensuring the login form remains protected from abuse. As a result, customers can successfully login from any page.
After successful installation, you will be able to access the intuitive addon interface directly from your WHMCS Administration panel where you can specify how many login attempts a user should be afforded and how long IP address bans should last.
The module interface will also display a list of all IP addresses that are currently banned and allow you to manually remove them if necessary. Please note that the module supports a minimum ban length of 1 minute and a maximum of 60 minutes.
This addon includes a 6 month support package. Upon expiry, you will have the option to renew it for an additional 6 months at a cost of $9.99 USD.
However, if you decide not to renew it, you can continue to use the addon on your website but you will no longer have access to the following benefits:
